Just Friends

One of the things that I love about being married to Katy is that we have fun together.  We started out in 1989 being close friends. We met at First Baptist Church in Houston and we have been friends every since then.  I actually told Katy that in order for us to become husband and wife , it would require my seeing a burning bush in the middle of I-10 at noon time.  I told her that I wanted to be friends and nothing more.  I said that to her and it made her cry.

I am not sure if that was the day that Katy started to plot against me, with her other single friends at First Baptist Church.   I did not realize it but every time we would get out of church, and go out to eat, I magically wound up seated next to Katy.  That is because the other singles made sure that I sat next to her.  What is funny, is that I was so focused on being “just friends”, that I never thought that Katy had more permanent plans for my heart.  At some point during our being “just friends”, Katy stole my heart, and has not given it back since.  Now that I think about it, my heart is in a safe place, and I have learned that she loves being more than I could ever imagine.

This is a picture of Katy and I being friends at a singles retreat.

One of the things that Katy and I like to do is to go out and eat together.  We like to go to Applebee’s because they have the 2 for 20 special which includes two full entrees and an appetizer.  Here are a couple of pictures of what we ate and Katy trying to get out of the picture when I was taking a picture of her food.

Chili's steak

Katy loves to order the 7 oz steak and baked potato.  Thanks to a sudden menu change, Applebee’s no longer serves baked potatoes.  As much as Katy loves them you would think she was born in Idaho instead of Corpus Christi Texas.

In an effort to eat a healthier diet I ordered a new entrée called Rum Chicken with shrimp and new potatoes.

I have been trying take better pictures pictures of food. When we go out to eat I like to capture what the food looks like just before I destroy it.

I believe that Heather Solos takes some of the best photos of food that I have seen.  One of the reasons is because she probably has a much higher caliber camera than I do.  Another reason is because she has worked hard at learning what angles to shoot from, and what type of lighting works with different types of foods.  Heather’s photos has inspired me to try do better with my photos.  When I was taking a photo of Katy’s entrée I noticed that her hand kept showing up in the shot. I asked her to raise her hand and she put both hands up as if she was under arrest.

What about your significant other?  Are you friends today and if so did you start out as friends?  Do you both have fun doing things together or do you go different directions?  I would love to hear your stories, so get to commenting folks.
