On the road to recovery

On April 30th MUSC transferred Katy to HealthSouth rehabilitation hospital in North Charleston.  During her stay there Katy received extensive PT, OT and speech therapy treatments.  For the most part the nursing staff and doctors were outstanding.  No one likes to be in the hosphealthsouth May 2016aital but if you need rehab this is the place to go.

Katy came home today on our 26th wedding anniversary. Katy , Willow and I are all excited that she is finally home now.  It will take between 6 months and one year for her to fully recover.  Katy will have home health come by and check on her 3 times per week for a while to make sure she is settling in at home ok.  Katy has a walker, cane and a wheelchair on the way.  She is still not able to stand or walk for any length of time.  The surgery really sucked the energy right out of her.

The good news is that Katy has a chance at a better quality of life in the near future.  The tumor is out and will not be able to grow and cause even more problems.  Without the loving support from all of our friends and family who donated the monies for her to get the surgery it would not have happened.  We still have a huge mountain to climb when it comes to finances and the up coming medical bills.  Our medical savings card has been drained and went towards the surgery so now we no longer have funds for further medical appointments or medicine without having to go into our living expenses.  I guess we will just take it one day and one appointment at a time and do the best we can.
